Domain Hosting: Net Traffic Tracker Sets Up in Spain
April 1, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The Basque Country and Navarra in northern Spain will host Europe's first Internet Traffic Observatory, the Register reported this week. The Internet Traffic Observatory will be made up of a network of 50 nodes distributed throughout Europe. The computers will be set up with traffic generation cards and synchronized through satellites. The computers will send traffic between them to measure such things as time lag or the transfer speed of Web pages.

Domain Hosting: Infocrossing Completes Stock Sale
April 1, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Infocrossing (infocrossing.com), a provider of IT and business process outsourcing services, announced today that it has completed its previously announced $30.6 million private placement of 2,917,000 shares of its common stock. The New Jersey-based company said it plans to use the proceeds to finance a portion of the $36.5 million it has agreed to pay for all of the outstanding stock of data center outsourcing provider Systems Management Specialists (SMS) (smsoutsourcing.com).

Domain Hosting: IBM Acquires Candle Corporation
April 1, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IBM (ibm.com) announced on Thursday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Candle Corporation (candle.com), a developer of enterprise level IT infrastructure and application management software. Financial terms were not disclosed. "Candle has been an IBM Business Partner since our founding in 1976," says Aubrey Chernick, chairman and chief executive officer of Candle Corporation, "and we've always taken synergistic paths with our technologies and strategies. Combining the two companies will offer our customers a more comprehensive set of solutions, which will enable IT to deliver greater business value."

Domain Hosting: Google Launches Email Service
April 1, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Search engine Google (google.com) announced today that it is testing a preview release of Gmail (gmail.google.com), a free Webmail service that will give users up to eight billion bits of storage information, the equivalent of 500,000 pages of email. Gmail, with 1GB of storage space, would easily outdistance the capacities offered by Yahoo (yahoo.com) and Microsoft's (microsoft.com) Hotmail services, which offer 4MB and 2MB of storage capacity respectively with their free accounts. The two companies charge their users for extra storage capacity.
